The 25th Annual Putnam county spelling bee
Props Designer and Manager
Phallic Candy & Usherette Box
The Phallic Candy was made for the song “My Unfortunate Erection” and was made from air-dry clay and a PVC pipe. It was painted with acrylics.
The Usherette Box was made from Lauan and Plywood, given webbing straps. It was filled with real candy to be thrown into the audience.
Fake & Real Juice Boxes
Our goal was to have the audience as immersed as possible, so those that came up were given a real juice box when they were eliminated.
The Cast were given fake juice boxes. They were designed in Canva and printed and glued to XPS foam blocks.
Number Placards
The number placards for the spellers were printed then laminated on regular printer paper. Because the show brought people from the audience in, it was requested that the “rules” for the Spelling Bee be provided on the back of all the placards.
$200 Vanity check
The Vanity Check was made out of scrap foam core, that was sourced from previous projects, that had the design printed on a plotter then glued to the board.
The check was meant to be this big comedic prop, due to the amount it was worth and the unprofessional nature of Putnam School.
